The purpose of the guitar was to provide a top quality instrument with the best woods but in the same size and shape and fretboard width as a classical instrument.

In this way, it was ideal for a classical guitarist to switch without difficulty to play some classical/fingerstyle pieces which can really sound lovely on a good steel string instrument.
