My name is Albert Axiaq, and I have been a Self Employed Guitar Tutor since 1993. In that time I have taught thousands of students, some of whom started when they were in grade one and went on to do VCE and then continued for leisure. I studied at Deakin University and completed my Bachelor of Arts (Music) and Associate Diploma of Education (Music). I have also studied the Suzuki way of teaching.

I believe music is an avenue for students to express themselves that might find it difficult to do otherwise. I teach students in the classical technique, which gives them a solid foundation to play all genres of music including rock, folk and jazz.

I teach both at home and in a number of primary schools. I enjoy teaching and encourage students to perform for an audience whether it is a solo performance or in the comfort of a group ensemble. I organise annual Christmas concerts where students receive a trophy highlighting their achievements.

Studies have shown that “Playing a musical instrument is a rich and complex experience that involves integrating information from the senses of vision, hearing and tough, as well as fine movements, and learning to do so can induce long-lasting changes in the brain” (The Guardian, October 24, 2016).

This year has had its challenges to ensure that students have access to a music program that does not compromise the spread of Coronavirus COVID19.

Due to parents limiting their child’s contact with the greater community, I have been determined to find a way to continue to reach out to my students via online lessons so that they continue to learn and progress with their music. Students connect via video chat and lessons are conducted as if they were in front of me. Parents of younger students are able to sit in and become a support for their child and help to adjust fingers, posture and the position of the guitar.

To date, it has been a positive experience for myself and the students who have participated in the new online version of learning.

I have created a web page to reach out to the wider community: Albert’s Guitar Tuition (https://axiaq6.wixsite.com/website) . If you wish to contact me to discuss any aspect of my program my phone number is +61409411815 or send me an email: axiaq@live.com.au .

Whatever your interests in life might be, may music be a part of it.
