CONCERT: THE PHILLIP HOUGHTON MUSICAL CELEBRATION CONCERT 2017
The Classical Guitar world was shocked and saddened by the recent passing of renowned Australian guitarist and composer Phillip Houghton.
His music inspired many guitarists and music lovers around the world. Eminent guitarist, John Williams, has premiered and recorded his work. The Australian Guitar groups Guitar Trek, The Melbourne Guitar Quartet, and Saffire have all played his works.
This event has been organised by the Classical Guitar Society of Victoria (www.cgsv.org) to celebrate Phil’s wonderful music. The President, Dr. Paul Nash, will be your Master of Ceremonies for the occasion.
Performers will include the Melbourne Guitar Quartet (MGQ), Dan McKay, Daniel Nistico, the recently formed Ladies Quartet (Nadia Sartori, Zeah Riordan, Tania Ravbar, and Alexandra Velasco), Kara Karavitis, John Mills, Gerard Mapstone, and Jemma Lee Donovan.
In addition, special video tributes will be presented by Karin Schaupp (Brisbane), The Agostino Duo (Sydney), and the Z.o.o Guitar Duo (The Netherlands).
It will also be our pleasure to have Professor Tim Kain AO (former Head of Guitar, ANU) in attendance to give his reflections of his collaborations with Phillip. We hope you can join us to celebrate this brilliant and creative composer’s contribution to world of Australian music.
